In building up its technology competencies and foresight, Keppel O&M plays a significant role in developing Singapore as an international maritime hub.
Through myriad initiatives, Keppel O&M works towards building up a repository of expertise, experience and knowledge that will equip the local offshore and marine industry to meet growing challenges in the global arena.
Working closely with the National University of Singapore (NUS), Keppel O&M established the Keppel Professorship in offshore and marine engineering in 2002.
With initial funding of S$1.5 million, the Keppel Professorship will support the initiation of research projects as well as product and technology development in the offshore and marine industry.
The 6th Annual Keppel O&M Lecture on 17 September 2008 was delivered by Keppel Chair Professor Andrew Palmer. He spoke on “Carbon Capture and Storage”.
Another milestone in collaboration with NUS came in 2004 where Keppel O&M became the first founding member of the Centre for Offshore Research & Engineering (CORE).
Together with Keppel O&M Technology Centre, Keppel’s Offshore Technology Development (OTD) arm is spearheading the InSafe Joint Industry Project (InSafeJIP), a collaborative research platform involving companies in the entire jackup value chain working and sharing data with one another.
The InSafeJIP, which kicked off in January 2008, aims to promote joint industry efforts to improve the existing guidelines and codes for jackup foundations. The programme will lead up to the formation of industry guidelines for geotechnical site assessments, which will help to enhance safety and the reliability of jackup operations.
